Hang a handmade ornament on your Christmas tree
KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS
Carolyn Vosburg Hall of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., is one of many people who enjoys special Christmas ornaments each year. For her and her family, it's the handmade ones that are cherished most.
Hall is a well-known author and award-winning artist. Her 13th book, "Christmas Ornaments" (Krause, $9.95 ), is a collection of 25 projects that would be great additions to your tree. Each is introduced by a bit of history, followed by step-by-step instructions.
The book is filled with unique designs, with all drawings and photos done by the author.
All skill levels are addressed and some ornaments can even be done by children, while others require more technical skills.
Supplies vary, but in addition to fabric you might need polymer clay, paper, felt, Mylar, ribbon, beads and more. You should also have the right kind of glue and paint. A tiny gingerbread house, for example, requires a hot glue gun to attach the many plastic beads and pearls that adorn it, while the whimsical angel uses only clay, satin fabric and some yarn for the hair.
"Christmas Ornaments" is available in local shops, or order from (888) 457-2873 anytime.
