Art museum displayspre-World War II styles
The elegance of cafe society in the years immediately before World War II is captured in "Blithe Spirit: The Windsor Set," on display at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art through Feb. 9.
Dating from 1935 to 1940, the exhibition, featuring a collection of couture by Chanel, Lanvin, Vionnet and Schiaparelli, focuses on the men and women who shaped the fashions and lifestyles of the period.
A centerpiece is the Mainbocher dress worn by Wallis Simpson at her marriage to the Duke of Windsor in 1937.
