Fireman remains in serious condition

SALEM -- Salem Fire Capt. Dennis Groves, 50, remains in serious condition in Forum Health Northside Medical Center, Youngstown, after suffering a heart attack at the scene of a house fire Friday morning.
Groves was taken by ambulance to Salem Community Hospital and then flown to Northside.
A couple and a boy living in the house at 1003 Arch St. in Perry Township, just outside the city, escaped without injury, but a family cat died in the 11:20 a.m. fire, said Phil Panezott, assistant Perry Township fire chief. Damage was estimated at $150,000 to the house, garage and contents.
The fire destroyed the garage, a car inside it and a breezeway. The house sustained heat, smoke and water damage. The fire, which started in the garage, was of electrical origin, Panezott said.
Damascus, Salem and Perry firefighters fought the blaze.
