CAMPUS NOTES In the spotlight



INDIANA UNIVERSITY
Second-year Kelley School of Business MBA student Don Spires, a Youngstown native, was part of a team that won the 2002 MBA Elite 8 Brand Management Case Challenge last month in Minnesota. The students competed among the top 15 marketing programs in the nation. Team members will share a $10,000 first-place prize.
WESTMINSTER COLLEGE
Recently receiving Sharonsteel Foundation scholarships are Casey Gadsby of Jackson Center, Pa., a senior biology major; Matthew Snyder of Mercer, Pa., a sophomore English major; Melanie Piddington of Sharon, Pa., a junior sociology/criminal justice major; and, Sarah Wright of Wheatland, Pa., a freshman mathematics and English major. Selection is based on Mercer County residency, grade point average, merit, financial need, leadership potential, and extracurricular initiative.
Gadsby, daughter of Mark and Charlene Spence, is a graduate of Lakeview High School. Snyder, son of Bill and Karly Snyder, is a graduate of Mercer High School. Piddington, daughter of Linda Piddington and George Piddington, is a graduate of Sharon High School. Wright, daughter of Sharon Wright, is a graduate of Farrell Area High School.
Senior business administration major Jennifer Poole, of New Wilmington, Pa., is one of five Westminster students who earned "Best of Pennsylvania" in a business plan challenge hosted by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants earlier this month in Philadelphia. Students submitted plans for fictitious business in need of accounting, marketing and finance service. Poole, the daughter of Michele Rosengarth, is a graduate of Wilmington Area High School.
Junior biology major Logan Edmiston, of New Wilmington, Pa., presented his summer research at the fifth annual Undergraduate Research Symposium in the Chemical and Biological Sciences in Baltimore. Edmiston, a Merck Scholar in a Westminster undergraduate research program, presented research involving the isolation of genes that determine gender in a species of algae. He is the son of John and Kathleen Edmiston and a graduate of Wilmington Area High School.
UNIVERSITY OF GREAT FALLS
Speech pathology major Erin S. Hystad (Mattern), a North Jackson native, received third place honors at the recent biannual Hyde Park Forum speech contest held at the Great Falls, Mont., college. She competed among 26 contestants.
UNIVERSITY OF TOLEDO
Danielle Lyn Timkovich of Youngstown has been inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society. The nonprofit, academic honors organization, with more than 300 chapters across the globe, offers membership to the top 15 percent of juniors and seniors in all fields of study.
BALDWIN WALLACE COLLEGE
English major Jennifer Dickey of North Lima has been inducted into the Alpha Lambda freshmen scholastic honor society. To be inducted, students must maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher during their first two semesters at the college. Dickey, daughter of Dawn and David Dickey, is a 2001 graduate of South Range High School.
ASHLAND UNIVERSITY
Integrated science major Danica Hull of Boardman has been inducted into the university's Department of Teacher Education. To be accepted, students have successfully completed tests, oral screenings and field experiences.
UNIVERSITY OF FINDLAY
Freshman recreation therapy major Rosemary Haller, of Warren, has received the Mildred Kinsinger Kelly Scholarship and the Ritz Memorial Scholarship for 2002-2003. The 2002 Warren G. Harding High School graduate, is the daughter of Mary Lou and Larry Haller.
MALONE COLLEGE
Varsity Speech competitor Kristy Fullerman of Canfield won first place in dramatic interpretation at the recent forensic and debate team Gateway Tournament in St. Louis. She and another Malone student won third place of all individual events teams at the tournament.
MOUNT UNION COLLEGE
Megan Brunstetter, a 2002 graduate of Maplewood High School, has received a Mount Union College Academic Merit Award, given to incoming freshmen based on academic performance. She is the daughter of Larry and Cathy Brunstetter.
