SHENANGO SCHOOLS Superintendent takes new job; board looks for replacement

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Shenango Area School Board will soon begin the search for a superintendent.
Superintendent Dr. Patrick O'Toole has accepted a similar position in the South Butler County School District.
Board President Bob Davis said O'Toole is an excellent educator and the district will miss his services.
The board made a decision during an executive session Thursday night to use the Intermediate Unit IV to advertise and conduct the search for O'Toole's replacement.
Davis said the board would like to fill the position of interim superintendent by the January board meeting.
"This provides an opportunity for professional growth and provides a need for change," O'Toole said about his move.
The student population in South Butler is about 3,000, while the Shenango student population is near 1,500, he said.
O'Toole began his career at Shenango in 1993 as the high school principal and was promoted to superintendent in July 2000. He also served as associate high school principal in the Greenville School District.
He said he and his wife, Tracey, will relocate to Butler County. She is a teacher in the Seneca Valley School District near Harmony, Pa.
He said he has enjoyed his time while serving Shenango. "The board, the staff, students and community have been great to me."
O'Toole plans to start his new position Jan. 16.
