NEW WILMINGTON, PA. Council to advertise for cable TV system

If all goes well, residents will have high-speed Internet access and digital cable services next year.
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Council has authorized the advertisement of bids for construction of a new cable television system for the borough.
Council unanimously agreed to place the advertisement once the borough superintendent and the cable committee review the specifications. Borough officials will then meet with prospective bidders Jan. 16 with final bids being due at 2 p.m. Jan. 30.
The bid award is expected to be made at the Feb. 3 borough council meeting.
The rebuilding of the borough-operated cable system is expected to cost nearly a half-million dollars. It will make high-speed Internet access and digital cable available to residents.
Policy adopted
Council also unanimously adopted a conflict-of-interest policy, which prohibits professionals employed by the borough from representing both the borough and other parties working within New Wilmington on the same project.
The change had been suggested by Solicitor Tom Mansell because borough engineer, Ross Taylor Engineering, also represented Wilmington Township, Mercer County, in a matter involving the borough.
Mansell has said the measure will prevent professionals from having to inspect their own work.
Lawmakers also agreed to Police Chief Carmen Piccirillo's request for $3,925 to buy new police uniforms, pepper spray and expandable batons for police officers.
