Outlook: The Beavers return five lettermen with plenty of experience, but lack depth. Goal is to win 18 games and a sectional championship for the first time in 25 years.
BRISTOL
Head coach: Scott Groves, third year (43-4)
2001 record: 19-1, 16-0 East Suburban Conference
Returning lettermen: Craig Giesy (6-3, Sr., G), David Whitt (6-2, Jr., G), Ben Imhoff (6-0, Sr., F), Ryan Mazella (5-8, Sr., G), Josh Dickey (5-10, Sr., G), Thomas Henry (5-11, Jr., G), Danny Yager (5-10, Sr., G), Justin Bellino (6-0, Jr., G).
Newcomers: Mitch King (5-10, Fr., G), Josh Hinton (6-3, Jr., F), Chip Clark (5-10, Sr., G), Vince Hill (5-11, Sr., G), Marcus Johancen (6-0, Sr., F), Matt Hinkle (6-0, Soph., F).
Outlook: Lost Division IV co-player of the year, John King, but return seven seniors and two-time all-Ohio guard Giesy from last year's state semifinal team. Have plenty of experience, depth and team speed. Don't have much size, but could be good enough for a return trip to Columbus.
CAMPBELL
Head coach: Bob Fick, sixth year
2001 record: 10-10
Returning lettermen: Chris Melnik (5-10, Jr., G), Rick Quinn (6-0, Jr., G).
Newcomers: James Torbert (6-1, Jr.), David Cash (6-1, Jr.), Antoni Zembillas (5-11, Jr.), Aaron McGuire (5-10, Jr.), Rmell Levesque (5-7, Jr.), Clarence Johnson (5-7, Jr.), Andre Ferrell (5-8, Sr.), Jeke Langford (5-4, Jr.), Teyon Harris (5-10, Soph.), Stan Gozur (6-0, Soph.), Tim Davis (5-8, Jr.), Darrin Johnson (6-1, Soph.).
Outlook: With just one senior, experience will be a problem. Little size, but good speed and quickness. Probably a rebuilding year, with an eye on next season.
EAST LIVERPOOL
Head coach: Nick Aloi, 16th year (268-89)
2001 record: 14-6
Returning lettermen: Josh Reed (6-2, Sr., G), Roosevelt Kirby (6-4, Sr., F), Justin Campbell (5-9, Sr., G), Scott Scales (6-0, Jr., G).
Newcomers: Tom Price (6-2, Jr., G), Ben Charleton (6-4, Jr., F), Bob Smith (6-3, Jr., F), Lou Volino (5-10, Jr., G), Roy Petties (6-1, Jr., F), Andrew Bobalik (6-2, Fr., G).
Outlook: Good team speed and experience. Josh Reed is one of the top guards in the state and Roosevelt Kirby is a three-year lettermen. Reed will attend Division I Morehead State.
SOUTHINGTON
Head coach: Michael Karr, fifth year (56-33)
2001 record: 12-8, 10-6 ESC
Returning lettermen: David Motz (Jr.), Max Slater (Sr.), Thad James (Jr.), Patrick Stantial (Jr.), Mike Pflager (Sr.).
Newcomers: Brian McCoy (Sr.), Brian Sabo (Sr.), Brandon Ayers (Jr.), Ryan Gilanyi (Fr.).
Outlook: Have five returning lettermen with good speed and shooting ability. Don't have much height or depth.
WARREN JFK
Head coach: John Condoleon, sixth year (63-49)
2001 record: 10-10
Returning lettermen: Keith Black (6-2, Sr., G), Luke Vincer (6-5, Sr., F). Colin Clemente (5-9, Soph., G), Adam Snyder (6-4, Jr., F), John Difiore (6-3, Jr., F).
Newcomers: Jim Kokrak (6-1, Sr., G/F), Shane Golden (5-7, Jr., G).
Outlook: Good experience and strength at guard. Will set sights on district championship game.
WEST BRANCH
Head coach: Lou Sellaroli, sixth year (55-52)
2001 record: 9-11, 6-8 Northeastern Buckeye Conference
Returning lettermen: Drew Baker (6-1, Sr.), Tim Keene (6-2, Sr.), Sam Jones (6-6, Sr.); Robert Stull (6-0, Sr.), Corey Wonner (6-1, Sr.), Nate Greenawalt (6-3, Jr.).
Newcomers: Seniors: Matt Campbell (6-0, Sr.), Alan Dattilo (5-10, Sr.), Bobby Altenhof (6-4, Jr.), Josh Venables (6-3, Jr.), Bobby Swallow (6-2, Soph.).
Outlook: Warriors have a solid core of returning players and will look to finish in the upper half of the league. Must replace Josh Scott and Mike Ingledue.
