BOYS BASKETBALL Niles streaks to third win in row



The Red Dragons continued on the unbeaten trail with a 56-33 win over Wilson.
NILES -- Dan Jones scored 16 points Friday as the Niles High boys basketball team easily tamed Woodrow Wilson, 56-33.
Vince Gatta scored 10 for the red-hot Red Dragons (3-0).
Chauncey Whitlow paced the Redmen (1-1) with 11 points.
Lisbon 78, Lowellville 51
LOWELLVILLE -- Four starters scored in double figures as Lisbon used a balanced attack to ground the Rockets.
Lucian Smith, Jay Yorty, Mike McDevitt and Nick Schnader scored 22, 18, 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Blue Devils (1-0).
Mike Palumbo scored 25 points and Andy Peterson had 10 points and as many rebounds for the Rockets (0-2).
Lisbon outscored the Rockets 23-12 in the second quarter to take a 40-25 lead at the break.
Toronto 75, Crestview 57
COLUMBIANA -- Toronto jumped out to a 38-17 halftime lead and then coasted past Crestview for its second straight win.
Toronto was led by Ryan Fidak with 27 points while Zac Thomas added 19.
The Rebels (0-2) were led by Roth Mercer's 13 points.
McDonald 65, Lordstown 47
McDONALD -- Kevin Stonestreet tossed in 21 points to lead the Blue Devils to their first win of the season against Lordstown.
Tyler Stanley added 11 points and Nick Testa tossed in 10 to aid the winners (1-1).
Lordstown (0-2) was led by Jason Darocha with 21 points.
Louisville 68, West Branch 52
LOUISVILLE -- Wes Deem hit for 15 points and Adam Boulder fired in 14 in support for the Leopards (1-1, 1-0 Northeast Buckeye Conference).
Luke Conley also scored 11 points for Louisville, which trailed 31-27 at the break.
Cory Wonner had 15 points while Robert Stull and Tim Keene each collected 12 points for the Warriors (0-2, 0-1).
Mohawk 65, Union 53
BESSEMER, Pa. -- Chris Kwolek and Shawn Carr combined for 47 points for the Warriors (3-0). Kwolek netted 25 points while Carr has 22.
Craig Hannon led Union with 27 points. Jeff Nero scored 11.
Youngstown Christian 56, Compass 46
AUSTINTOWN -- Mike Byrdy and Themi Tsarnas scored 19 and 16 points, respectively, as Youngstown Christian improved to 1-1 at Highway Tabernacle.
Matt Carnes led Compass with 14 points. Rod Fortson scored 12.
