Airport is a loser with no reason for being, let it go

Airport is a loser with no reason for being, let it go
EDITOR:
The Vindicator editors continue the campaign to force the taxpayers to subsidize the bottomless pit commonly called the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, this time in a Nov. 25 editorial.
The taxpayers of Youngstown were happy to shift the burden of supporting this "white elephant" to the citizens of Mahoning and Trumbull counties. The editors allege that the Buckeye Institute, a Columbus think tank, "cautions against turning the facility to a private concern or the federal government."
What private concern would want it? It would be a short cut to bankruptcy. If the federal government had the contract for the facility, we would have an air base instead of a station. This would mean more employees, more funds, more status and all that goes with the Air Force base status. Charter and private facilities would still be available.
Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Akron-Canton supply all the needs of local air travelers. The local airport would only add further delays in the security chain. An air trip from Youngstown to Fargo, N.D., required setting down at Akron-Canton, a long wait at O'Hare then on to Fargo. Too much time on the ground. The same destination from Cleveland flies over the Great Lakes to Minneapolis-St. Paul then to Fargo. In the air more time than the ground.
The editors allege that the Buckeye Institute "firmly believes in the free market and limited government involvement in business." However, they have no objection to taxpayers on the local, state and federal level keep the airport out of bankruptcy.
Would private industry or stockholders finance such a loser?

Know this: There is hope for the Mahoning Valley
EDITOR:
The letter, "Valley is frozen in time, young should run away," is typical thought by negative people who live in the past.
Since we moved from New York to the South Side eight years ago, many mobsters, judges, lawyers, drug dealers, murderers and felons have gone to jail in the city of Youngstown and the surrounding area.
There are many new projects in the works and God has not forgotten the Valley. Like the Israelites of old, many people in the Valley don't believe because they don't know that God loves this area and is working behind the scenes through many people.
There are many Christians praying for revival, repentance and restoration of the Valley, and I see the results every day in the news and on the streets of Youngstown.
As God told the prophet of old that the vision will come to pass and if it tarries to wait for it, I believe it will come to pass. All the negative, critical, unbelieving people can't stop it from happening.

Republicans worked hard to be elected, must deliver
EDITOR:
To the writer of a Nov. 22 letter, yes, the majority of Ohio and the rest of the country has elected Republicans. I'm a lifelong registered Democrat and never miss an election. The last couple of elections I've voted mostly Republican, including for George Bush. Wanna know why? Because the Democrats were not getting it done.
Now let me tell you something. The Republicans have worked hard and spent a lot of money to get elected, they better live up to their promises or they'll be on outside looking in.
