Senior-laden team, but not much size.
LABRAE
Head coach: Gregg Isler, fourth year (34-30)2001 record: 16-4, 13-3Returning letterwinners: Chad Carr (6-2, Sr.), Brett Briscoe (6-1, Sr.).Newcomers: Mat Frederick (5-6, Jr.), Kyle Dalton (6-0, Jr.), Jeff Bosley (6-0, Jr.), Todd Rowan (6-2, Soph.), Jason Frederick (6-1, Soph.), John Pugh (6-0, Jr.), Dave Colarik (6-1, Jr.), Brian Howard (6-1, Jr.), Brandon Hillman (5-11, Sr.).Outlook: Lost six seniors from last year's team and return just one starter. Have plenty of depth, but little varsity experience. Should get better as season progresses.
LAKEVIEW
Head coach: Lawrence Herrholtz2001 record: 10-10, 8-8Returning letterwinners: Brandon Bakker (6-4, Sr., F), Kevin Rigby (6-2, Sr., F), Matt Nero (5-10, Jr., G), Brent McCullough (6-3, Jr., G), Joe O'Palka-Brown (6-1, Jr., G), Jimm Multale (6-2, Jr., F).Newcomers: Jeff Ellens (6-1, Sr., G), Mike Olesh (6-2, Jr., G), Chuck Williams (6-5, Jr., F).Outlook: Return six letterwinners and three starters. Bakker and Rigby can both score and rebound. Should be a contender in league race.
LIBERTY
Head coach: Burt Stellers, third year2001 record: 5-15, 5-11Returning letterwinners: Bradley Fletcher (6-2, Jr., G), Joe Lopez (6-1, Jr., G), Joel Marshall (6-5, Jr., F), Steve Patterson (5-10, Sr., G), Brian Post (6-1, Sr., G), Sean Lipkin (6-1, Sr., F).Newcomers: Aaron Logan (5-10, Jr., F), DeShawn Crenshaw (6-1, Jr., G).Outlook: Return six lettermen and four starters, so Liberty should be better than last season. Fletcher is one of area's best and the Leopards have good quickness and several experienced players. Don't have much size or depth.
NEWTON FALLS
Head coach: Roy Sembach, 16th year (176-147)2001 record: 15-5, 11-5Returning letterwinners: Jeff Stanley (5-10, Sr., G), John Sekora (6-2, Sr., G), Derrick Runtas (6-0, Sr., G), Kevin Powell (6-3, Sr., C), Kirby Spahlinger (6-1, Jr., G), Alex Cooper (6-6, Jr., C).Newcomers: Dan Rankin (6-4, Soph., C), Andrew Grunder (5-10, Jr., G), Troy Balint (6-3, Soph., C), Frank Dillon (6-1, Jr., G).Outlook: Good balance of size and quickness, youth and experience. Will try for sixth straight winning season and to compete for league and district title.
