Gates' 25 points lead Kent past Rhode Island

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Antonio Gates scored 23 of his 25 points in the second half Wednesday as Kent State won its 18th consecutive regular season game, 82-63 over Rhode Island.
Kent State (3-0), with the longest regular-season winning streak in the nation, never trailed. Gates was held to just two points in the first half as Kent State built a 33-26 halftime lead.
But he scored the first four points of the second half and had five points in a 14-2 run midway through the second half as Kent State pulled ahead 64-50.
Eric Haut finished with 21 points while Anthony Wilkins had 10.
Dustin Hellenga led Rhode Island (2-2) with 26 points.
Miami 78, Dayton 63
OXFORD -- Danny Horace scored a career-high 21 points, including five during a 17-0 run when Miami took command midway through the second half.
Juby Johnson added 15 and Chet Mason 14 for Miami (2-3).
Ramod Marshall led Dayton (3-1) with 19 points. Sean Finn had 15 and Brooks Hall had 11.
Bowling Green 76, Buffalo 59
BOWLING GREEN -- Kevin Netter scored a career-best 36 points for Bowling Green in the Mid-American Conference opener.
Netter was 12-for-22 from the field and made 12-of-15 free throws.
John Reimold (Kennedy Catholic) added 19 points for the Falcons (2-1).
Roderick Middleton scored 17 points and Turner Battle had 11 for the Bulls (2-3), while Mark Bortz had 11 rebounds.
N. Illinois 77, Drake 62
DE KALB, Ill. -- Al Sewasciuk hit seven 3-pointers and scored 25 points off the bench for Northern Illinois.
Marcus Smallwood added 17 points for the Huskies (3-3).
Greg Danielson led Drake (4-3) with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
