MAC/CITY SERIES Liberty edges Canfield in OT; Niles, Poland, Chaney win



The Cardinals rallied from a five-point deficit to force overtime.
CANFIELD -- Bradley Fletcher fired in a 3-point basket with 1:29 left in overtime to give Liberty a 62-59 lead Tuesday and the visiting Leopards hung on to beat Canfield, 66-60.
Karim ElReddaf of the Cardinals (1-1) made 1-of-2 free throws to get within a basket, but Joey Lopez and Steve Peterson each made two foul shots to seal the victory for the Leopards.
Liberty led by five points with 3:26 remaining in the fourth quarter, but Canfield's Leo Sorice and Frank Turocy hit back-to-back baskets to put the Cardinals up, 54-53.
Fletcher, with nine-tenths of a second left, split a pair of free throws to send it into overtime.
Fletcher scored 23 points and grabbed 10 of 35 rebounds to pace the Leopards. Joel Marshall made six 3-pointers for 18 points
Chad Baker, Turocy, Andrew Havas and ElRaddaf led Canfield with 14, 14, 11 and 11 points respectively.
Baker pulled down 14 of 43 rebounds. Turocy and Matt Sonnett had five assists each.
Niles 57, LaBrae 49
NILES -- Ahead 40-38 at the end of the third quarter, the Red Dragons (2-0) pulled away with a 16-11 spurt in the fourth period.
Tim Rupert took scoring honors with 21 points to spark Niles. Dan Jones added 17 and Vince Gatta finished with 12.
Jason Federick paced the Vikings (0-2) with 11 points.
Salem 58, Marlington 50
ALLIANCE -- A strong fourth quarter left the Quakers undefeated through two starts.
Salem led 15-13 after one quarter and the teams were tied at 23 at the break and knotted at 39-all after three.
Tyler Pierce and Joe Smith evenly split 28 points for the Quakers who shot 22-for-42 from the floor.
Smith had six rebounds for the Quakers, who entered the season with a 19-game losing streak.
Matt Grewe scored 15 points for the Dukes.
Poland 69, Rayen 39
POLAND -- Chad Fender scored 17 points and hit three 3-pointers for the Bulldogs (1-0), who led 45-23 at halftime.
Bill Bartos also collected 15 points and seven rebounds while Jon Habuda scored 10 points for Poland.
Jamal Higgs paced the Tigers with 18 points.
Chaney 67, Campbell 62
CAMPBELL -- Chris Childers tossed in 20 points, including three 3-point goals, and also had 11 rebounds as Chaney held off Campbell's late rally.
Chance Peay added 14 points and five steals. Adrian Richards had 12 points, nine rebounds, five steals and two blocked shots to reinforce the Cowboys, who had a 37-35 advantage on the boards.
James Torbert led Campbell with 16 points while Teyon Harris added 10.
