ICL/DISTRICT Steady Sebring upends Reserve
The Trojans had four players reach double figures against Western Reserve.
BERLIN CENTER -- Josh Dean, Andrew Wilson, Dave Scarpitti and Greg VanKirk scored 16, 13, 12 and 10 points, respectively, Tuesday as the Sebring boys basketball defeated Western Reserve, 76-45.
The Trojans led 51-30 after three quarters and used a 25-point final frame to put the game away.
Dave Ferrando hit three 3-point goals for nine points for the Blue Devils (0-2).
Sebring pulled in 45 rebounds while Western Reserve had 18.
South Range 71, Leetonia 47
LEETONIA -- South Range (1-0) put 12 players in the scoring column, three of them in double figures in turning back the Bears (0-1).
Ryan Copeland paced the Raiders with 18 points. George Rohan chipped in with 13 and Jordan Taylor had 10.
Fred Gray and Matt Custer sparked the Bears with 17 and 15 points, respectively.
Bristol 63, Mineral Ridge 55
BRISTOLVILLE -- David Whitt fired in 23 points, Ben Imhoff added 15 and Thomas Henry 10 for the Panthers (2-0).
Whitt grabbed 12 of Bristol's 42 rebounds and Craig Giesy had four steals and five assists.
Tim Persin led the Rams with 11 points. Judson Williamson finished with 10.
Southern 64, Lowellville 51
SALINEVILLE -- Josh Diaz led the Indians with 20 points and 15 rebounds while Brandon Hamilton added 13 points and five assists.
David VanDyne added 10 points for Southern (1-0).
Senior Mike Palumbo scored 17 points for the Rockets (0-1).
Maplewood 44, Brookfield 33
CORTLAND -- Matt Chronister fired in 17 points while Jeremy Mohorick added 11 for the Rockets (1-1). Kevin Peterson grabbed seven of his team's 36 rebounds.
Chad Fonagy and Ted Swogger, who pulled down nine rebounds, led the Warriors with nine points apiece.
Southington 88, Grand Valley 80
ORWELL -- Max Slater had 23 points and five rebounds while Brandon Ayers had 21 points, including five 3-point goals, to lead Southington (2-0).
David Motz added 17 points and Patrick Stantial had 12.
Motz had seven of his points in the final period on 7-for-8 from the foul line.
John Vetter poured in 30 points, including four 3-point goals, to pace Grand Valley. Jim Hunter tacked on 14 points.
Matt Brosovich had eight points and five rebounds.
Compass Center 55, S. Ridge 32
YOUNGSTOWN -- Matt Carnes scored 13 points while Kevin Lott scored 11 for Compass.
Rod Fortson added nine rebounds for Compass Education Center which led 17-5 after one quarter and 34-10 at the break.
Mohawk 82, Center 73
BESSEMER -- Shawn Carr connected for 33 points, including four 3-point goals, and grabbed eight rebounds. Chris Kwolek chipped in with 24 points and seven rebounds to spark Mohawk (2-0).
Ryan Piccirillo added six rebounds and four points.
For Center (1-2), Chad Taddeo scored 25 points and Craig Kostelic 15.
Shenango 69, W. Middlesex 68
WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. -- Freshman point guard Stephen McNees put in a lay-up with five seconds remaining for the Wildcats (2-1).
The Big Red (0-3) led 68-64 when McNees hit a 3-pointer with 30 seconds remaining to pull Shenango within one point. McNees, who finished with 11 points and three assists, missed a shot in the lane, grabbed his rebound then scored the winning points.
Dan Aven scored 18 points and Terry Grossetti had 15 points and eight rebounds for Shenango.
Tyler Babcock, Jake Buzard and Paul Fair scored 25, 14 and 13 points, respectively, for West Middlesex.
Sharpsville 56, Venango Christian 44
SHARPSVILLE -- Mark Anglin collected 14 points and 10 rebounds while Tim Gardner had 10 points and 10 rebounds, to spark Sharpsville (2-1).
R.J. Golub had nine points and eight rebounds while Adam Dye also had nine points for the Blue Devils.
