Cavaliers coach John Lucas called his two-game suspension of leading scorer Ricky Davis "a necessary evil" and part of the young team's growing process.
"I cannot reiterate this enough -- I love coaching Ricky Davis," the coach said. "I think the other players love having Ricky on the team.
"It was a necessary evil that happened in a very trying year -- and has made us a better team."
Lucas suspended Davis for yelling at teammate Tyrone Hill during the third quarter of Friday's loss against Philadelphia.
Davis refused to comment Tuesday after practicing with the club for the first time since his suspension. He is averaging 19 points after signing a six-year, $34 million contract in August.
Davis was part of a team meeting before practice Tuesday in which everyone was encouraged to speak up.
"It was very productive," Coles said. "We came to a better understanding and we're OK now. Being 2-17 can cause problems for anybody. What we need to do is get a win and put all this behind us."
