WARREN Report shows Ryan's finances
Candidates to replace Ryan in the state senate will be interviewed this week.
WARREN -- In the last weeks of his campaign, US. Rep.-elect Tim Ryan collected nearly $70,000 in donations, bringing his total to $536,191.
An equivalent post-general election finance report from Ryan's Republican rival, Ann Womer Benjamin, or former congressman James Traficant Jr. have not yet been added to the Federal Election Commission's database.
Benjamin had collected $317,188 as of Oct. 17, a few weeks before election day. At that time, Traficant had raked in $77,466. The vast majority of Ryan's last-minute donations came from outside the 17th District.
Road trip
About 150 people, meanwhile, have signed up for a bus trip to Washington to see Ryan's swearing-in ceremony Jan. 7.
"A lot of people are talking about it, and we've been getting lots of calls," said Holly Zoba, of Warrenpages.com, who is organizing the trip.
Buses will leave from Warren on Jan. 4, Jan. 5 and Jan. 6. All return the evening of Jan. 7.
Accommodation has been arranged at the Courtyard Convention Center across the street from the National Portrait Gallery in Washington. Reservations are still being accepted.
Members of the Ohio Democratic Caucus are expected to begin interviewing candidates this week to replace Ryan, of Niles, at his old job, representing the 32nd Ohio Senate District.
Finalists selected by local party leaders are Marc Dann, a Liberty School Board member; Dan Polivka, Warren councilman-at-large; John Moliterno, Girard councilman; Joseph Varckett, former Ashtabula city manager; and state Rep. L. George Distel.
