Hardie selectedby conference
NEW WILMINGTON -- Katie Hardie, a junior member of the Bethany College women's basketball team from Cardinal Mooney High, was named Presidents' Athletic Conference player of the week.
Hardie, a 5-foot-10 forward, averaged 25 points and 14 rebounds in wins over Penn State-Behrend and Pitt-Greensburg.
She made 20-of-30 shots, including 3-of-5 on 3-pointers.
Her 29 points against Pitt-Greensburg was a career high.
Bethany (3-1), ranked No. 24 in Division III, plays host to Point Park tonight at 7.
Kent coach fired
KENT -- Matt Dietzel, a native of Sharon, Pa., was fired as defensive coordinator of the Kent State football program.
He also coached the defensive backs. The Golden Flashes struggled to a 3-9 record, including 1-7 in the Mid-American Conference.

BIG BEAVER BOROUGH, Pa. -- BeaveRun MotorSports Complex will bring the One Lap of America endurance race to western Pennsylvania on May 9.
Tire Rack One Lap of America competitors will match their high-performance production cars against BeaveRun's two race tracks during one of the 5,000-mile race's few official stops. To help racers prepare for the grueling, virtually non-stop sprint around the United States, BeaveRun is also debuting the country's first-ever Cannonball One Lap of America Driving School on April 4-5.
While the two-day school is open to everyone, it will offer One Lap competitors the opportunity to preview both of BeaveRun's race tracks.
The driving school will include classroom and on-track instruction from professional instructors and One Lap regulars Mark Hopkins and Chip Holst.
Automotive journalist and One Lap organizer Brock Yates, who recently completed his latest book, "Cannonball: The World's Greatest Outlaw Road Race," will be at BeaveRun April 5 to join school participants for an exclusive dinner and to talk about the heritage and history of the race.
The evening program is included as part of the two-day Cannonball One Lap of America Driving School ($300). Enthusiasts can also register for a one-day session ($175.00) or opt to attend only the April 5 dinner ($30.00). Reduced fees are available for additional drivers. Bailey breaks own mark for winnings
NEW YORK -- Jockey Jerry Bailey broke his own North American single season earnings record with a third-place finish at Hollywood Park over the weekend.
The $60,000 earned boosted Bailey's total to $19,032,509, according to Equibase Company LLC.
Bailey broke his previous mark of $19,015,720 set in 2001.
