NOTEBOOK From Cleveland Browns Stadium
Remaining schedule: The Browns travel to Jacksonville next Sunday, then play host to AFC South-leading Indianapolis on Dec. 15. The Browns' final road game of the regular season will be against Baltimore Dec. 22. The Browns will close the season at home on Dec. 29 against Atlanta.
On the move: The Browns rushed for 140 yards, including 110 in the first half, to give them their third-straight game with more than 100 yards on the ground. The last time the Browns accomplished that was 1993. Rookie William Green gained 94 yards on 24 carries. After rushing for just 161 yards on 71 tries in the first nine games, Green gained 96 yards against the Bengals and 114 against the Saints. "I am just disappointed because we worked hard all week and came up empty," Green said. "We have to put this behind us and look forward to next week. Personal statistics do not matter if we do not win."
Couch moves up: Quarterback Tim Couch moved into sixth place on the Browns' career list for passing yards. Couch was 12-of-27 for 130 yards to give him 8,984, moving ahead of Milt Plum's 8,914.
Two in a row: Safety Earl Little picked off a Rodney Peete pass to give him two interceptions in two games. Despite missing the first three games of the season, Little leads the team with four interceptions.
Special teams: Late in the second quarter, Browns defensive tackle Gerard Warren blocked a 22-yard field goal attempt by Shayne Graham. That's the fifth game this season the Browns have blocked a field goal or a punt.
Defense: The Browns limited Carolina to 89 yards passing, their best effort of the season. The previous low was 101 yards by the Titans on Sept. 22.
Inactives: Fullback R.J. Bowers of Grove City College was among the Browns' inactive players Sunday. Also out were cornerback Daylon McCutcheon, linebacker Kevin Bentley, offensive linemen Melvin Fowler and Chad Beasley, wide receiver Andre King and defensive end Cedric Scott. Anthony Henry replaced McCutcheon in the starting defensive lineup. Running back Lamar Smith led the Panthers' list of inactives. Others were linebackers Dan Morgan and Hannibal Navies and offensive linemen Tim Stuber, Tutan Reyes and Jeno James. Dee Brown was the starting running back for Smith while Will Witherspoon and Brian Allen replaced Morgan and Navies, respectively.
