NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Emeka Okafor scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as No. 12 Connecticut held off Vanderbilt 76-70 on Sunday night.
The Huskies (3-0) trailed only once as Okafor helped them control their first road game against a Vanderbilt squad that started three sophomores and got even younger when subbing in three freshmen.
The loss snapped a 16-game non-conference winning streak at home for Vanderbilt (3-1) who had been an impressive 54-2 against non-Southeastern Conference opponents.
Taliek Brown finished with 15 points for Connecticut, which has won nine straight road openers against non-Big East teams.
Matt Freije scored 18 points for Vanderbilt.
No. 19 Indiana 84, North Texas 58
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Bracey Wright scored 21 points, Jeff Newton had 15 points and 14 rebounds and Tom Coverdale added 17 points to lead Indiana.
The Hoosiers (4-0), playing for the first time since winning their first Maui Invitational title last week, struggled at the outset and led North Texas (1-2) by just six points at halftime.
Jermaine Green led North Texas with 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Chris Davis added 12 points.
Yale 84, Penn St. 68
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Edwin Draughan scored 18 points and Mark Lovett had 15 to lead Yale, which made 10 3-pointers in the second half, led by Draughan and Lovett, who had four apiece.
Sharif Chambliss led all scorers with a career-high 26 points for Penn State, scoring 20 after halftime.
Jan Jagla had 14 points for Penn State, but Yale's T.J. McHugh won the inside battle with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Illinois 85, Western Illinois 56
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Brian Cook returned from a two-game suspension and scored 17 points to lead Illinois. Cook and guard Jerrance Howard missed the first two regular-season games for inadvertently participating in a non-sanctioned tournament this past summer, an NCAA violation. Howard was scoreless in his return.
Roger Powell added 15 points and seven rebounds and Luther Head scored 11 in his first appearance of the season after battling a groin injury. Deron Williams chipped in 10 for the Illini (3-0).
Matt Robins hit four 3-pointers and led Western Illinois (2-3) with 14 points. Andre Charles finished with 10 points, all in the second half.
Wooster 64, Westminster 53
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Senior Greg Foster (Ursuline) posted a game-high 15 points, including a 9-for-9 performance at the foul line, for the Titans (1-3).
Sophomore guard Craig Bohyer (Warren Harding) added 10 points off the bench, including three 3-pointers.
Four Wooster (4-0) players scored in double figures, led by Bryan Nelson with 13. Nelson also had a game-high eight rebounds. Ryan Snyder (Sebring) scored three points off the bench.
Wisconsin-Milwaukee 79, Maine 63
NEW ORLEANS -- Dylan Page scored 20 points and Clay Tucker added 16 for Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the fifth place game at the University Hoops Classic.
Justin Lettenberger went 6-of-7 for 14 points and had seven rebounds for Milwaukee. Ronnie Jones scored 10 points and had nine assists.
Maine's Joe Campbell scored a game-high 24 points.
