Crash kills man
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 68-year-old Fowler man was killed Sunday afternoon in a two-car crash on state Route 616, police said. His name was being withheld pending notification of family.
The victim, northbound on the icy pavement, lost control of his Ford Explorer, which turned sideways near Coitsville Road into the path of a southbound car, said Lt. Mark Milstead of the accident investigation unit. The Explorer veered off the road and rolled over, ejecting the victim, who was not wearing a seat belt, Milstead said.
The other driver, a 50-year-old Hubbard man, had minor injuries, Milstead said.
Strikers face charges
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Four striking Universal-Rundle workers face criminal mischief charges.
Pennsylvania State Police said Steven DeSalvo, 22; William Grannis, 25; Ronald Brommer, 33; and Edward Watt, 46, all of New Castle, were cited at 5:50 a.m. Saturday and accused of throwing rocks at a car driven by a Sandy Lake man. The victim is a replacement worker, police said.
About 100 members of the Glass Molders, Pottery, Plastics & amp; Allied Workers International Union have been on strike since midnight Oct. 15 over wages and benefits.
Police reported that the same victim's car was damaged at 3:30 p.m. Friday as he was leaving work. They said his right passenger side window was smashed. No one was arrested in that matter, police said.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Lawrence County District Attorney Matthew Mangino was expected to be a guest this morning on Court TV for the program "Open Court." Mangino was expected to talk about the trial of Roy Kipp, a former supervisor with the Collier County Florida Sheriff's Department. He is charged in the shooting death of his estranged wife and her lover, a former co-worker and sheriff's deputy. Kipp faces the death penalty if convicted. Mangino, a member of the executive board of the Pennsylvania District Attorney's Institute, sits on a committee studying death penalty legislation in Pennsylvania.
Shot at house
YOUNGSTOWN -- A man from New York City was shot in the left hip and left leg about 4:40 a.m. today at a house where he'd been staying for a few days in the 3700 block of Loveland Avenue, police said. Alexis J. Cuevas, 22, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. His condition wasn't immediately available. No motive for the shooting was given.
Warren's festivities
WARREN -- The city's annual tree-lighting and caroling on the square is set for Friday.
Santa and his elves will arrive on Courthouse Square at 5 p.m. The tree lighting by Mayor Hank Angelo, Santa Claus and Stan Boney from WYTV Channel 33 will be at 5:05.
The television station will broadcast choirs live from the square beginning at 7 p.m.
Festivities continue until 8 p.m., with children visiting Santa and getting a toy and a picture.
Free carriage rides will be given around the square, and participating downtown businesses will conduct open houses offering refreshments and-or gifts for children.
Children also will have the opportunity to hang their personal ornaments on the Christmas tree.
Work set to beginon ship-ferry terminal
ERIE, Pa. (AP) -- Work is expected to begin in a few weeks on the final phase of the city's Cruise and Ferry Boat Terminal, which would allow large ships to dock. In addition to allowing Great Lakes cruise ships to dock, the Erie-Western Pennsylvania Port Authority also hopes to run a high-speed ferry service from Erie to Canada.
The $854,000 contract to install reinforcing sheet piling along the dock wall will likely go to the Chivers Construction company of Erie, the port authority said. The Great Lakes cruising season typically runs from spring through late fall.
"We hope to award the contract in a couple of weeks. The work should take four or five months," said Raymond Schreckengost, the Port Authority's executive director.
Leaf pickup
LEETONIA -- Village crews are completing fall leaf pickup this week, working on the north side of town.
Village Administrator Gary Phillips said crews will not use the leaf machine after Dec. 7. Any leaves placed at the curb after Dec. 7 must be bagged, he said.
