MINNEAPOLIS -- Michael Bauer's 3-pointer rolled in at the buzzer Saturday to give 24th-ranked Minnesota a 72-69 victory over No. 17 Georgia.
Bauer, who missed two practices this week with a shoulder injury, led the Golden Gophers (2-0) with 19 points, 16 in the second half.
He launched his final shot from the top of the key and watched it bounce around the rim before falling in. Then, eyes wide open, he turned and raced toward the student section of the stands to celebrate.
Jarvis Hayes, who had 17 of his 21 points in the second half, helped Georgia (1-3) rally from a six-point deficit with 1:40 left. He made a tough layup in traffic, drawing a blocking call that fouled out Minnesota's Jerry Holman, and converted the three-point play to cut the Gophers' lead to 68-66 with 50.5 seconds left.
Rick Rickert, who had 12 points, was fouled and went 1-of-2 from the line with 34.3 seconds left. But Hayes swished a 3-pointer to tie it at 69 with 14.7 seconds to go.
No. 3 Texas 78, Seton Hall 61
HOUSTON -- Deginald Erskin scored 22 of his career-high 24 points in the second half and T.J. Ford added 19 to lead Texas.
The Longhorns (4-0) and Pirates (1-1) played the second game of a doubleheader in Reliant Stadium, home of the NFL's Houston Texans, which was converted to a basketball arena for the Space City Classic.
No. 6 Duke 84, No. 14 UCLA 73
INDIANAPOLIS -- Freshman J.J. Redick might have found his niche at Duke already. UCLA, meanwhile, is in trouble already.
Redick scored 20 points, leading sixth-ranked Dukeat the Wooden Tradition in a game pitting two programs with a total of 14 national titles.
John Wooden, who coached UCLA to 10 of its 11 NCAA championships, presented Duke with a trophy for winning the game. It might have upset him to see the Bruins drop to 0-2 for the first time since 1961, when Wooden was in charge.
Nick Horvath added 16 points to help Duke improve to 7-1 against the Bruins under coach Mike Krzyzewski.
The Blue Devils (3-0) used a 22-6 burst in the second half to open a 21-point lead. Daniel Ewing started the run with a 3-pointer, and Redick contributed eight points.
No. 18 Missouri 81, Austin Peay 46
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Rickey Paulding had 14 points and nine rebounds and guard Jimmy McKinney returned from an injury as Missouri routed Austin Peay.
Arthur Johnson had 16 points and three steals, and Rickey Clemons had nine points and eight assists for the Tigers (2-0).
McKinney, the team's top recruit, returned wearing a protective mask after missing nearly a month with a broken bone above his right eye. He had eight points in 14 minutes.
No. 23 Mississippi St. 100, Jacksonville 65
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Timmy Bowers had 21 points, including four 3-pointers, as Mississippi State shot 58 percent in a 100-65.
Bowers led five scorers in double figures and the Bulldogs (2-1) won their second straight game without star center Mario Austin. The school is still waiting for a ruling on Austin's eligibility after the NCAA determined he was mistakenly certified to play as a freshman.
Mississippi State dropped its opening game to Louisiana-Lafayette but was never in danger of losing to Jacksonville (3-2).
No. 25 Wisconsin 69, UW-Green Bay 52
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Freddie Owens scored 19 points and Kirk Penney added 18.
The Badgers improved to 4-0 for the first time since they opened the 1996-97 season with six straight wins. They held UWGB to 37.5 percent shooting from the floor and forced 17 turnovers. Brandon Hansen led the Phoenix (1-3) with 14 points in their first regular-season game at the new Resch Center.
