NBA Knicks sting Hornets in overtime

Allen Houston's clutch shot with 13 seconds left was crucial for New York.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Allan Houston was the first to admit he was long overdue to hit a clutch shot.
Houston recovered from a scoreless second half to hit a clinching 12-foot jumper with 13 seconds left as the New York Knicks defeated the New Orleans Hornets 92-86 Saturday in the third overtime game of the month between the teams.
Houston scored 16 points in the first half, none in the second half (shooting 0-for-7) and four in the extra period for New York, which lost the other two overtime games against the Hornets.
"Yeah, I would think I was due," Houston said. "All the other ones just felt so good, it seemed like the one that was the toughest was the one that fell for me."
Othella Harrington had season-highs of 17 points and 14 rebounds, and Latrell Sprewell scored 19 for the Knicks, who won despite blowing a 12-point lead in the final five minutes of regulation.
Mashburn scores 20 points
Jamal Mashburn had 20 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and four steals for the Hornets, who are undefeated at home but dropped to 2-5 on the road.
One day after seeing a back specialist, Hornets guard Baron Davis had a poor outing with 10 points on 4-for-15 shooting.
Davis received a cortisone treatment, Hornets coach Paul Silas said.
"When he's not playing well, we're not a very good team -- as evidenced by the first three quarters of this game," Silas said.
After Mashburn hit a bank shot with 33 seconds left in overtime to pull the Hornets to 88-86, Houston had the ball on the right wing.
He dribbled to his left and into the lane for a leaner over Courtney Alexander and a four-point lead. Howard Eisley added two foul shots with 4.4 seconds left for the final margin.
"I just tried to get in close for a shot closer to the basket, take it into the lane instead of taking a tough outside jump shot," Houston said.
NBA overtime record tied
The Hornets and Knicks tied the NBA record for most overtime games between two teams in a single season. It has been accomplished several times, most recently by Miami and Cleveland last season.
After committing 14 turnovers in the first half, the Knicks used a 16-0 run midway through the third quarter to take a 62-54 lead. Davis, after starting 0-for-8, finally made his first field goal late in the quarter.
Harrington, promoted to the starting lineup Wednesday night, scored six of the Knicks' first eight points in the fourth quarter, and his putback with 5:27 left gave New York a 76-64 lead.
That's when the Hornets began their final push, getting 3-pointers from Davis and Alexander, a dunk by Davis and a layup by P.J. Brown in an 11-0 run that pulled them to 76-75.
After Davis drew an offensive foul on Eisley, Alexander hit a wide-open 3 for an 80-78 lead with 2:19 left. Neither team scored again until Kurt Thomas went to the line with 26.1 seconds left following a loose ball foul. He made both shots to tie the game 80-80.
Davis had his shot blocked by Thomas with five seconds left, and Shandon Anderson missed a 12-footer just before the buzzer.
Sprewell scored on a fast-break layup with 2:56 left in overtime to give New York the lead for good, then added a jumper from the lane for a four-point cushion. No one scored again until Mashburn's basket with 33 seconds left.
