Maybe you can't have the Victorian mansion or the Frank Lloyd Wright house of your dreams, but you can have it in miniature.
Kath Dalmeny's "Dollhouse Style" can guide you in creating miniature rooms that represent notable periods in architectural history. The interiors reflect history in scaled-down form, right down to such exquisite details as linen-fold paneling and a Tiffany lampshade.
The book covers 15 rooms ranging in time and style from a Tudor banquet hall to a contemporary loft apartment. Readers are introduced to tools, materials and techniques that are useful for creating miniatures and given instructions for making 90 of the items pictured.
"Dollhouse Style" is published by Running Press and is priced at $24.95.
Whirlpool combinesoven and refrigerator
Now there's an oven that not only starts baking when you tell it to, but also keeps the food cool until then.
Whirlpool Home Appliances' Polara range has an oven cavity that doubles as a refrigerator.
A timer controls the functions, so users can prepare meals up to a day in advance and have them kept fresh throughout the day and ready to eat at a designated time.
The oven even takes care of things if you don't make it home in time.
It automatically kicks into a warming period for up to an hour after the baking time ends, then back to refrigeration mode for up to 24 hours.
No customized installation is required, the company said.
Suggested retail prices for the 30-inch range are $1,799 for white, black and biscuit-colored units and $1,899 for stainless steel.
It is initially being sold by Sears but should be available at other appliance retailers later this year.
