HELPING HANDS Volunteering
Volunteer Services Agency, a United Way Agency, is a local resource for volunteer recruitment, placement and management for people of all ages in the Mahoning Valley.
The agency sponsors three programs: the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, which helps people 55 and older use their life experience skills in their communities; Volunteer Service to Seniors, which provides assistance and companionship to the elderly living independently in their homes; and the Volunteer Center, which helps people of all ages connect with local nonprofit agencies that need volunteer assistance.

SHORT TERM OPPORTUNITIES
English Festival, Youngstown State University: Those who like to read act as judges and monitors April 9-11.
First Night Youngstown: Many jobs available to help with the celebration Dec. 31.
Rescue Mission: Needs extra help and food for Christmas.
Salvation Army: Bell ringers wanted until Dec. 24.
St. Vincent dePaul Society: Needs help and food for Christmas.
CAN YOU HELP?
Volunteer help also is needed for these agencies:
Assisted living facilities (Marian Living Center, Meridian Arms, Austin Woods, Sunrise): Volunteers needed to do room visits, help with crafts, play cards, bingo, seasonal decorating.
Big Brothers & amp; Big Sisters: Men needed to mentor children in this program.
Camp Fire Council: Board members needed. People also needed as instructors for nature, health and academic programs. Volunteers needed for secretary and receptionist work.
Forum Health (Northside Medical Center, Beeghly Complex, and Beeghly Oaks): Volunteers needed for filing, telephone interactions, escorts, and the gift shop.
Gospel Temple Community Empowerment: Students in grades 2-8 need tutoring, recreation, social skills and someone to create a music program.
New Hope Academy: Person wanted immediately for bookkeeping one day a month.
Protestant Family Services (Mary Haddow School): Tutors needed in all subjects for grades K-4.
Rose Melnick Medical Museum, YSU: People to serve as docents to give guided tours at the museum on an as-needed basis.
STARS (Seniors Teaching & amp; Reaching Students Program): People over 55 to act as tutors and mentors for elementary pupils in grades K-4. RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program): People needed to be team leaders in organizing mailings, putting projects together, following up on assignments, and assisting with development community projects.
Volunteer Service To Seniors: Needs committed volunteers to provide grocery shopping, transportation assistance and to be caregivers to seniors wanting to remain independent in their home.
