AROUND THE NHL Saturday's other games
Maple Leafs 3, Sabres 1
TORONTO -- Alexander Mogilny had a goal and two assists.
Mats Sundin and Robert Svehla also scored for the Maple Leafs, who have won of seven of nine to reach .500 (11-11-2). Curtis Brown scored for the Sabres, who have just one win in the last 17 games (1-12-3-1). Fans chanted 'Ed-die Ed-die' as Toronto goalie Ed Belfour had another strong game, turning aside 19 shots. Belfour, who signed with Toronto after Curtis Joseph left for Detroit, has allowed just 14 goals in his last nine games. Belfour had shutouts in three of the previous five games. Mogilny, who hit the post with a wrist shot in the second period, gave Toronto a 3-1 lead at 6:58 of the third with his team-leading 12th goal. His wrist shot went over goalie Martin Biron's shoulder. Biron allowed three goals on 26 shots.
Flyers 2, Canadiens 1, OT
MONTREAL -- Justin Williams scored on a breakaway with 6.3 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Philadelphia Flyers the win. Williams stripped the puck from defenseman Patrice Brisebois at the Philadelphia blue line and moved in on goalie Jeff Hackett, who had stopped 37 of 38 shots to that point.
Brisebois, in pursuit, tripped Williams but the right wing managed to flip the puck past Hackett from the seat of his pants. His teammates streamed off the Philadelphia bench to celebrate their second win in 11 games (2-5-4).
Senators 4, Islanders 2
OTTAWA -- Marian Hossa had two goals and an assist to extend his club-record point streak to 13 games.
Todd White scored early in the third period as Ottawa extended its unbeaten streak to 10 games. White took advantage of a turnover by former Senators player Alexei Yashin in front of his own goal to give Ottawa a 3-1 lead.
Roman Hamrlik scored to make it 3-2, but New York lost for the second straight night. Martin Havlat scored into an empty net with 34 seconds remaining. Adrian Aucoin also scored for the Islanders, who last beat Ottawa on April 6, 2000. It's the only time in 29 games that they've managed a win over the Senators, a streak of 1-21-7 dating to Jan. 6, 1996.
Radek Bonk had three assists and Peter Schaefer added two for the Senators, who beat Washington 6-2 Friday night.
Senators' starting goalie Patrick Lalime had the night off. That earned Martin Prusek just his third start this season and fourth of his NHL career, and he stopped 22 shots to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Canucks 5, Panthers 2
SUNRISE, Fla. -- Matt Cooke scored a short-handed goal, and the Vancouver Canucks added three power-play tallies to stretch their franchise-record winning streak to 10 games.
Markus Naslund, Todd Bertuzzi and Sami Salo each scored power-play goals for the Canucks, who led 3-1 after the first period. Brendan Morrison also scored, and Dan Cloutier (14-5-3) made 29 saves to earn his first career win against Florida (1-3-1).
Vancouver hasn't lost since Nov. 6 at Dallas.
Jaroslav Bednar and Marcus Nilson scored power-play goals for the Panthers, who lost for the first time in five games (1-1-3-0). Jani Hurme was pulled after he allowed the three first-period goals on just 10 shots.
Roberto Luongo, who started the second period, allowed Bertuzzi's goal at 9:24 that made it 4-1. Salo made it a four-goal game in the third period when he beat Luongo with a slap shot for his first goal this season.
Vancouver took a 1-0 lead at 3:08 when Morrison took control of the puck as it ricocheted off several players and shot it between Hurme's legs. Cooke made it 2-0 with a wrist shot from the top of the circle.
Less than a minute later, Bednar brought Florida to 2-1 with his first goal.
Naslund's poked in a rebound at 14:09 to score his team-leading 15th goal.
