UNIONTOWN Chaney rally comes up short

Fitch beat one of its future Federal League opponents.
UNIONTOWN -- Senior wide receiver Josh Sommers caught two touchdown passes from senior quarterback David Miller, and Mike Justice made a PAT as Lake turned back Chaney 13-6.
After Chaney scored with 6:20 to go on Keilen Dykes' 2-yard touchdown run, the Cowboys (1-1) got the ball back and moved to Lake's 18 before quarterback Justin Hood was stripped of the ball.
Chaney also had drives stall in the first half -- once at Lake's 25 and once at the Blue Streaks' 33.
Senior tailback Ed McElroy gained 114 yards on 18 carries and Hood, a junior, completed 8 of 17 passes for 121 yards. He didn't throw an interception. Hood's top receiver was Andy Bowell with three catches for 42 yards.
Normally a tight end, Dykes scored in a goal-line situation.
Lake (1-1) moved the ball because of its strength up front and kept the Cowboys in check until the final period.
The Blue Streaks' passing also dented Chaney's defense as Miller was 9 of 17 for 134 yards -- with 111 of that in the first half. Sommers hauled in six passes for 91 yards.
Dykes' TD capped an eight-play 80-yard drive. Hood was stripped of the ball with a minute remaining.
Fitch 28, Massillon Jackson 7: AUSTINTOWN -- Fitch quarterback Jason Aikens ran for two touchdowns and running back Davanzo Tate added another as the Falcons (1-1) defeated future Federal League rival Massillon Jackson.
It was Fitch's first win in four tries against the Polar Bears (1-1).
The Falcons started the scoring with a 13-play, 72-yard drive capped by Tate's 3-yard run. Miles Williams then extended Fitch's lead when he intercepted a Polar Bear pass and raced 29 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-0.
Aikens ran for an 8-yard touchdown to give Fitch a 21-0 lead with 3:06 left in the third quarter. Aikens then struck again with 4:12 left in the fourth to make it 28-0.
Jackson's Kyle Calvert had a 1-yard run with 2:29 left to spoil the shutout.
