XMill Creek Chapter of the American Business Women's Association will meet at 6 p.m. Sept. 10 at Smaldino's Family Restaurant on Market Street in North Lima for a program on personal safety and crime prevention. The menu will consist of stuffed pork chop, stuffed baked potato, broccoli and cauliflower, rolls and chocolate sundae. XWarren Christian Women's Club will hold "A Cultural Fair" from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Sept. 9 at Avalon Inn and Resort, Howland. Marge Lardis, chairman of the Mahoning County Civic and Cultural Society, will provide information on the group, and there will be displays from various countries. GUILDS
XAmerican Sewing Guild, Niles Chapter, will participate in a Border Shop Hop planned Sept. 12-14. A bus will be available Sept. 12 and will stop at five Pennsylvania shops where notions and quilt block patterns will be given out for free. Guild members also may participate in an outdoor flea market Sept. 21 at Warren Central Christian Church. Tables are available for $5. In the event of rain the event will be moved indoors. A bus trip is planned to the American Sewing Expo Sept. 20-21 in Novi, Mich. The cost is $70 for members and $80 for nonmembers for the hotel and bus. Classes and entrance fees are extra. SOCIETIES
XMahoning Valley Historical Society will celebrate its 127th anniversary during an event planned from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at Oak Hill Cemetery, 344 Oak Hill Ave. The program will include refreshments and walking tours of the cemetery to see the unique architecture of the mausoleums, markers and monuments. Youngstown police and fire departments' color guards will present a ceremony in remembrance of Sept. 11. The cost is $25 for MVHS members and $30 for nonmembers. Reservations are required by Sept. 8.
