PREP VOLLEYBALL Hubbard shows TAC dominance
The Eagles won their 135th consecutive conference match.
CORTLAND -- Katy Jo Mroski had 15 kills and three aces, while Monica Rajkovicova added nine kills and 10 digs, as Hubbard High defeated Lakeview 15-8, 15-7 in a Trumbull Athletic Conference volleyball match on Wednesday.
The match was the season opener for both teams, and was Hubbard's 135th consecutive victory in the TAC.
Junior Whitney Keyser had eight kills and eight digs, junior Megan Taylor had 12 assists and an ace, and senior Tina Pinter had seven digs, six points and an ace for Lakeview. (JVs: Hubbard 15-15, Lakeview 4-3)
Boardman 15-15, Canfield 4-12: CANFIELD -- Senior Jen Hlebovy had 15 points and five kills, junior Jaclyn Corroto had six points and six assists and senior Claire Selius had five points and four kills for Boardman (2-1).
Sophomore Stephanie Jarvis had six points and six kills, senior Amanda Williams had six points and two aces, senior Jill Vertanen had six kills and sophomore Kerrie Haurin and junior Ginny Naples had five assists apiece for Canfield (1-1).
Fitch 15-15, Olmsted Falls 4-4: AUSTINTOWN -- Katie McDermott had 12 points, 10 kills, seven blocks and two digs; Jessica Evans had four points, three kills and three digs; Maggie Case had 11 kills and three blocks and Stacie Mang had three assists for Fitch. Kent Roosevelt 15-15, Warren Harding 4-9: WARREN -- Brittney Warren scored eight points, with three aces, to pace the Raiders (0-3). Jenna Simon had eight assists. Sharina Freeman had four kills. (JVs: Kent Roosevelt 15-15, Warren Harding 0-7)
Champion 15-15, Newton Falls 8-10: CHAMPION -- Velda Morrison scored eight points, with seven aces and three digs, to spark the Golden Flashes (2-0). Michelle Canatsey had six kills and seven digs, while Kelly Meyer had 12 assists. Megan McElravy and Ashley Shaver led the Tigers (0-2) each with six points and two aces. Krista Maas had two kills.
Brookfield 15-15, Badger 3-1: KINSMAN -- Rachel Pasquerilla had 10 points, Jessica Zebroski had nine points and five aces, Regina D'Eramo had three assists and Zebroski also had two kills for Brookfield (1-2, 1-0).
Junior Stephanie Tingler had four points, senior Jenna Bush had five digs and junior Katie Brainard had three digs for Badger (0-1). (JVs: Brookfield, 15-15, Badger 4-4)
Springfield 15-13-15, Western Reserve 8-15-3: BERLIN CENTER -- Lindsay Johnson scored five points and made eight kills for Springfield (3-0, 1-0 Inter-County League). Tiffany Carson had six kills.
