Police search for woman in fatal shooting

YOUNGSTOWN -- The search continued today for a woman named Joy who detectives want to question in the shooting death of a 78-year-old South Side man.
Jonathan Ragsdale was shot in the chest at 7:29 p.m. Tuesday at 2717 Idlewood Ave. and pronounced dead at 8:16 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Police found Ragsdale lying in a pool of blood in the front yard at that address.
A man who was sitting on the porch told police he heard a woman he knows as Joy, who had just arrived at the house, yelling at Ragsdale. The witness went inside to investigate, saw her pointing the gun at Ragsdale and tried to wrest the gun from her, but he quickly let go of the gun for fear of being shot.
As the woman backed out of the house toward the front door, she fired one shot at Ragsdale as he tried to run down the hallway, the witness said.
Walked away
She then walked swiftly out of the house, went southbound on Idlewood and turned eastbound on Hylda Avenue, the witness said.
Police saw a bullet hole in the dining room wall, a 9mm shell casing on the living room floor, and a trail of blood beginning in the hallway and going out the front door.
An anonymous male caller later told police the woman's first and last name and hung up. Ragsdale is the city's 25th homicide victim of the year. At this time last year, the city had recorded 21 homicides.
