Local conjoined twinscannot be separated
BRISTOLVILLE (AP) -- Conjoined twin girls from this Trumbull County community who share a heart and a liver cannot be separated.
After examining the girls' last week, doctors at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh determined the girls' heart would make a separation impossible, hospital spokeswoman Melanie Finnigan said Tuesday.
The daughters of Misty and Keith Berry of Bristolville were discharged Saturday to a hospice and were in serious but stable condition Tuesday.
The girls were born Aug. 16 in Pittsburgh's Magee-Women's Hospital.
Conjoined twins occur when a fertilized egg that would have become identical twins fails to split apart. This occurs once in every 50,000 to 60,000 births. In three out of four cases, the twins are stillborn or die within 24 hours.
Prize: In-car video unit
NILES -- The car eluded them, but Niles police still got some loot.
Chief Bruce Simeone said the department has been given a new in-car video unit for being honored Tuesday in Columbus as one of the top 10 communities in Ohio for seat-belt enforcement.
Each community got a set of keys, only one set of which fit a new cruiser.
Reynoldsburg was the lucky department.
The video unit Niles got is valued at about $4,000, Simeone said.
Niles was one of 800 participating communities in the state's "What's Holding You Back?" campaign, designed to increase seat-belt and child-restraint use.
Spraying scheduled
HUBBARD -- A third mosquito spraying as a precaution against West Nile virus will be Tuesday. If it rains, spraying will be Sept. 5 or 6.
Spraying will begin at 7 p.m. and take six to eight hours. As a precaution, residents are asked to close windows and keep pets inside.
Vehicular homicide case
WARREN -- A Hermitage, Pa., woman has been sentenced to six months in prison after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor count of vehicular homicide.
Catherine Settlemire, 41, was sentenced Tuesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court by Judge Andrew Logan.
Prosecutors said Settlemire was driving on Standard Road near U.S. Route 62 in Brookfield on Jan. 26 when her vehicle crossed the median and struck a car.
A passenger in that car, Yvonne Edwards, 71, also of Hermitage, was killed.
Woman reports rape
WARREN -- A 21-year-old woman told police she was abducted and raped in the 300 block of Central Parkway S.E.
The woman told police she was walking with her toddler around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when a man put a gun to her head and made her walk between the houses.
After the assault, he fled on a bicycle.
Seminar on surgery
NILES -- Trumbull Memorial Hospital is having a bariatric surgery seminar from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Community Health Connection in Eastwood Mall.
Bariatric surgery, also known as gastric bypass surgery, is performed on chronic severely obese people as a last resort.

Tree planting postponed
GIRARD -- The city tree planting program has been postponed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources because of an infestation this summer of cicadas, commonly called 17-year locusts.
Those who made contributions to have trees planted will be notified when the program resumes.
Swearing-in planned
CHAMPION -- Township trustees will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the township offices to swear in Tom Tracey as a trustee, replacing Carol Deehr. Trustees may conduct other business.
