Authorities rule out robbery, accident in shooting death

WELLSVILLE -- Investigators have eliminated robbery and accident as factors in the death of Craig Roberts, who was fatally shot Monday.
Village Police Chief Joe Scarabino said Tuesday an intensive investigation is under way in the death of Roberts, 43, of 502 Wells-Hollow Road.
No arrests have been made. Scarabino declined to comment on motive, where in the house the shooting occurred, the weapon used in the crime or whether any suspects have been identified.
What is known
Authorities said Roberts was shot in the head sometime before 6:05 a.m. Monday, when a household member found him and called police. The exact time of the shooting has yet to be determined, Scarabino said.
Roberts was taken to East Liverpool City Hospital and then to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh.
Columbiana County Prosecutor Robert Herron said Roberts was brain dead at the hospital, where he was surviving with the help of life support systems. A time of death has yet to be established.
The Allegheny County Coroner's Office is to perform an autopsy on Roberts. He owned Boot Hill Towing Co., Wellsville.
