Canfield Fair
Many attractions at the 156th Canfield Fair my be enjoyed at no cost. Here are some:
Animals: Cattle, dogs, exotic beasts, geese, goats, horses, ostriches, swine, turkeys.
Western Reserve Village: Restored buildings include a log cabin, blacksmith shop, one-room schoolhouse, doctor's office and country store.
Antique Carriage Museum: Showcase of restored buggies and wagons used before the invention of the automobile.
Band concerts: High school marching bands from Mahoning County perform daily at the grandstand. Daily shows on three stages include Youngstown State University's Symphonic Band and local musical groups.
Buckeye Memorial Grove: Memorial area dedicated to war veterans.
Domestic arts and crafts: Needlework, crafts, canned and baked goods, ceramics, fashions, quilts and dolls will be displayed in the arts and crafts buildings.
Education Building: Displays of penmanship, poetry, art, woodworking, science, math and home economics done by Mahoning County pupils. Live demonstrations may be seen each day.
Fine and Floral Arts Building: Photography, art, sculpture, painting on porcelain, handcrafts, floral designs and flower exhibits are displayed. Entertainment and art demonstrations may be seen daily.
Government Building: Displays of townships and government agencies.
Grange display: Handmade items, crafts and preserved foods made by members.
Holbern Herb Garden: In Western Reserve Village.
Junior Fair activities: Style reviews, saddle horse shows and many other shows and demonstrations involving members of 4-H, Junior Grange, FFA, Camp Fire, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Farm Bureau Youth.
Milking parlor: Shows how cows are milked with modern equipment.
Old McDonald's Farm: A petting zoo.
Pumpkin Palace: Home of the giant pumpkins and squashes.
Antique farm machinery and small engines: Threshing, woodcutting and bailing equipment of yesteryear is displayed and demonstrated.
