BIKE NIGHT Agenda includes night just for motorcycles

The display of bikes will be one of the largest shows of its kind in this area, fair officials said.

CANFIELD -- This year's Canfield Fair has a new addition to its six-day agenda.
The first Bike Nite at the fairgrounds is set for Friday, and hundreds of gleaming machines are expected to drive in and strut their stuff on the grandstand concourse.
The motorcycle display is the first such event at the fair and will be one of the largest shows of its kind ever seen in this area, fair officials said.
Registration opens at 6 p.m. to admit motorcyclists, who will pre-assemble off the fairgrounds at two separate locations on the concourse and along side streets.
Bikes will be on display until the 11 p.m. closing time.
Organizing event
Bill and Linda English of Austintown are organizing the event and said between 500 and 700 people are expected to participate. They have been registering bikers through August at various area bike nights.
Bobby D's restaurant in Youngstown, The Ice House Inn in Austintown, and Chili's restaurant in Boardman are among the hot spots for bikers. A $6 registration fee, paid in advance or at the door, gives bikers admission into the fair for themselves and a passenger and a parking space along the concourse or side street.
The proceeds go to a variety of charities, such as Forum Health Tod Children's Hospital; Muscular Dystrophy Association; Ride for Kids, which supports the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation of the United States; and the Pony Express for breast cancer.
John and Debbie Egner signed up for Bike Nite and think the event is long overdue. John has attended the Canfield Fair for the last 40 years and think Bike Nite will be a success.
The Boardman residents plan on showing off their '82 and '95 Yamaha Viragos out at the fairgrounds, if the weather permits.
Those registered or wishing to register can enter in Gate #3 off Fairground Blvd. starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday to receive a wristband that will admit them into the fair. The registration table will be open from 6 p.m. until judging begins at 8 p.m.
Bikes enter the competition under six different classes and contend for first, second, and third place in each class. Everyone at the fairgrounds for Bike Nite, biker or not, can vote for best in show.
At 10 p.m., Doug Danger will highlight the late evening with his daredevil stunt show at the grandstand. His free show will include motorcycle jumps from ramp to ramp and over a number of cars.
Danger established a Guinness Book of World Records mark in 1991 with a jump of 251 feet ramp to ramp. The world-renowned daredevil has jumped as many as 23 cars at one time, and reached a height of 85 feet when jumping over a building.
