YSU trustees approve3-year faculty contract
YOUNGSTOWN -- Classes at Youngstown State University will start Monday as planned.
The board of trustees approved a three-year contract for the faculty Friday by a 5-1 vote.
The contract grants a 3.5-percent annual increase plus a $1,000 increase to the base salary in each year.
A faculty proposal to include medical benefits to domestic partners was not included. Still, trustee Joseph Nohra, an ordained Catholic deacon who opposed the proposal, voted against the contract, saying certain portions were not in the university's best interest.
He did not elaborate.
Trustees F.W. Knecht III, who was also opposed the domestic partner provision, did not attend the meeting.
