YSU to honor freshmen
YOUNGSTOWN -- More than 600 freshman recipients of Youngstown State University Scholarships for Excellence will be recognized at the inaugural Outstanding Freshman Scholars Tribute at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Beeghly Center gymnasium. Nearly 1,200 students, families and others are expected to attend.
The tribute "is YSU's way of showing these students that we are delighted that they are a part of our campus," Provost Tony Atwater said.
"It also demonstrates to Northeast Ohio and the nation that YSU is a learning community that supports and advances academic excellence."
Guest speaker is Dr. James Kravec, who graduated summa cum laude from YSU in 1998 with a bachelor of science degree in combined science and is a May 2002 graduate of the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. Kravec is a resident in internal medicine at Akron City Hospital.
"Jim Kravec epitomizes what students can hope to achieve through their course of study at YSU," said Dr. Ronald Shaklee, director of the University Scholars and Honors Programs at YSU.
