The city parks and recreation commission handled these items Thursday:
Agreed to let Eagle Heights Academy place a modular classroom behind its building, partly on park property. A yearly lease for $1 will be arranged. The school has a second modular classroom on its own property near Delason Avenue to accommodate its growth.
Talked about the future of the city's two swimming pools, each of which need serious repairs. Just repairing valves at North Side pool will cost $15,000; the other pool, Borts, is on the city's West Side. Parks and other city officials will talk about whether to repair the pools. Other ideas for improvements include adding play equipment to the pools or building a new central pool that would resemble a water park.
Gave approval for the Youngstown State University Department of Military Science and Army ROTC to use Wick and Crandall parks for training. Training will occur from September through May from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Cadets will wear camouflage uniforms, helmets and other equipment and carry fake rifles made of rubber. Wick Park also is used for physical fitness and ranger programs from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m.
