Salem hires four new teachers for upcoming school year
SALEM -- The school board agreed Monday to hire four teachers.
Tara Evans will teach special education at the high school. Evans, who previously taught night school at Choffin Career Center in Youngstown, will be paid $27,000 annually.
Sherri Syms will teach special education at the middle school. Superintendent Dr. Dave Brobeck said Syms most recently taught in Pennsylvania. Syms, who has a master's degree, will earn $44,000 annually.
Patricia Romeo, who will teach French and German at the middle school, is a first-year teacher and will earn $25,650 annually.
James Peters will teach machine trades at the high school. Peters, who previously was a machinist in private industry, will be paid $34,000 annually.
The school board met in private to discuss buying property for a new bus garage. The district is considering property along the 1000 block of Franklin Avenue that has a commercial building on it.
