COLUMBIANA CORNER In 'lionizing' effort, Heartland staff, volunteers get out of the red

As Heartland Christian School students and staff prepare to start the school year, Administrator Dallas Lehman said staff and volunteers continue to paint over various parts of the former Columbiana High School, which it occupies, that are red, Columbiana's most prominent school color.
Red-accented walls, railings and Columbiana and its Clipper mascot references are slowly being replaced with Heartland's primary color, purple, and images of lions, the school mascot.
"We call it "lionizing," Lehman said.
Praising poll workers
John Payne, Columbiana County Board of Elections director, lauded the efforts of poll workers and his staff after a recent special election in the Columbiana Schools. Polls in the school district closed at 7:30 p.m. Poll workers delivered the paper ballots to the board of elections office in Lisbon and Payne's staff processed the 904 ballots, added totals from Mahoning County precincts in the school district, and reported the final tally by 8:15 p.m.
