Ceremony to rededicate steel sculpture

YOUNGSTOWN -- A bronze sculpture crafted in 1978 to memorialize the Mahoning Valley's steel industry has been reinstalled in a new, permanent location in front of Youngstown's Ohio Historical Society Center of Industry and Labor.
The sculpture, which depicts two steel workers on the job, will be rededicated at a ceremony set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the center, located at 151 West Wood St. two blocks north of downtown.
The event is free and open to the public, and a reception will follow at the Butler Institute of American Art. The Butler has a display of artist George Segal's Preliminary Study for Steelmakers, on loan courtesy of The Segal Foundation in New York.
United Steelworkers of America District 1 is paying the moving costs for the sculpture, which was originally located on Federal Plaza.
Segal, who is known for his life-size plaster sculptures of ordinary people doing ordinary things, chose two Youngstown steel workers to serve as his models in 1978.
Wayman Paramore and Peter Kobly Jr., who both live in the Mahoning Valley, worked for Youngstown Sheet & amp; Tube at the time.
