Welcome back: Returning to the Scrappers' lineup tonight is outfielder Brian Wright, who is batting .295 with four home runs and 30 RBIs. Wright has been sidelined since Aug. 7 with a pulled oblique muscle that he suffered while checking his swing. "That will be a welcomed addition and another bat in our lineup," Scrappers manager Chris Bando said. Also set to return Saturday is catcher David Wallace, who fractured his nose and cheek bone in a game July 24 when he fouled a ball off his face. Wallace is batting .247 with three home runs and 14 RBIs. "We'll be at full strength in a couple of days," Bando said. "We got our September call-ups a couple of weeks early."
Extra visitor: Prior to the first pitch, a pigeon flew into the press box and sat down on a back ledge. It walked around some of the press releases and a stack of media guides and then rested with his head facing the field. With the help of official scorer Al Thorne, the pigeon flew out of the box in the top of the second inning, only to fly right back in and again rest on the back ledge. Jim Riley, director of marketing and promotions, also tried to help the bird fly away, to no avail. In the bottom of the second, it finally flew out the back door.
Pitching match-ups: The Scrappers will send left-hander Keith Ramsey (3-2, 2.21 ERA) to the mound tonight against Auburn right-hander Chad Pleiness (6-2, 2.55). Saturday, lefty Blake Allen (3-4, 3.64) of the Scrappers faces right-hander Vince Perkins (3-4, 3.88).
