Schedules needed
The Vindicator sports department needs fall schedules from the following schools: Howland, Salem, Lowellville, Mathews, Badger, Girard, LaBrae, Newton Falls, Columbiana, East Palestine, Lisbon, Warren JFK, Sharon, New Castle, Hickory and Kennedy Catholic. Over 50 gamesplayed tonight
STRUTHERS -- Two games are on tap tonight at 8 as the 50 Plus baseball league tournament opens play at Cene Park.
The Canton Masters will face New Springfield at Cene 2, while Girard takes on Chester, W. Va., at Cene 1 to launch the single-elimination meet involving oldtimers' teams.
All 13 teams in the 50 Plus League are billed in the tourney that determines the league champion. Penn-Ohio is the defending champion.
The tournament will continue Saturday morning at 10 with three games slated. Alliance will meet Salem at Cene 3, Massillon opposes East Palestine at Cene 1, and Penn-Ohio takes on Youngstown at Cene 2.
Four games are scheduled Saturday afternoon, three of them at 12:30. In two of them, Poland challenges the Alliance-Salem winner at Cene 1, while Jamestown (N.Y.) squares off with the Penn-Ohio-Youngstown winner at Cene 2.
The other 12:30 game pits the winners of Girard-Chester and Massillon-East Palestine at Cene 3.
Then at 3 p.m., Hubbard goes against the Canton-New Springfield winner at Cene 1.
The two semifinals are Sunday at noon at Cene 1 and Cene 2, the winners colliding for the championship Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Cene 1.
Youngstown starsdefeat Warren
STRUTHERS -- Youngstown defeated Warren 7-5 in the "AA" All-Star Game on Thursday at Cene Park.
Trailing 4-3, Youngstown scored two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings for the victory.
Rob Tamburro tripled for Youngstown, while Sean Wardle and Eric Jones doubled. Bill Sloan got the win in relief.
Jason Elias had three hits, including a double, for Warren, while Rob Bauman, Matt Gibson and Travis Desavigny each added two hits. Desavigny, Gibson and Elias each doubled. Jeremy Kroll was the losing pitcher.
Chaney tickets
YOUNGSTOWN -- Chaney High School football tickets can be purchased at the Palko Mill Creek Service Station on Bears Den Road during the season from Wednesday at noon until Friday at noon.
They are also available at the school on game day from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Mount Union coach
ALLIANCE -- Mount Union College has named Becky Blaser as the Purple Raider women's assistant soccer coach.
Blaser, a four-year All-Ohio Athletic Conference performer at Mount Union, finished her playing career last fall second on the Raider all-time scoring list with 30 goals and 24 assists (84 points).
She led Mount Union in scoring in three of her four years of play.

Kyle Rote dies
BALTIMORE -- Kyle Rote, one of the most popular players in New York Giants history, died at 73 from cardiopulmonary complications at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore.
Rote, an All-American at Southern Methodist and the No. 1 pick in the 1951 NFL draft, caught 300 passes for 4,797 yards, a 16-yard average, and 48 touchdowns. He was the Giants' career receiving leader when he retired.
