FEATURE RACE Sharon Speedway

HARTFORD -- Winston Cup drivers Dave Blaney and Tony Stewart spent their off-night from asphalt to battle a stellar field of V-8 Modifieds, but Sharon's current point leader, Ron Smoker, decided that "Tony Stewart Night" was the time to showcase his driving talents.
After a field of 62 was whittled down to 28, Smoker won the Bicknell Racing Products Modified Tour 50-lap event. Polesitter Rex King and Guy Griffin swapped the lead for the first two laps. King took control until the 11th lap when Blaney battled Joe Crawford through the sixth lap as Blaney moved to second. Blaney gained the lead from King on No. 12 only to relinquish it on laps 13 and 15. With only the second caution displayed on the 29th lap when King got a flat tire, Smoker, of Hamburg, N.Y. was quietly working through the field from 11th. Smoker moved to second while Kevin Bolland powered his way to third from his outside sixth row start.
After the yellow flag, the final 21 laps were all green as Blaney continued on a path to victory. Numerous lapped cars, however, played a part as Smoker used two lapped traffic cars and an inside pass through turn three to overtake Blaney for the lead with 10 laps to go.
Smoker went on to post his third BRP Modified tour victory of the season and ninth overall at Sharon this season. Blaney was second and Bolland third. Stewart managed a fourth-place finish and Sharon regular Alan Dellinger was fifth.
