Feedback: Since announcing their plans to hold Jim Traficant Night Wednesday, the Scrappers front office staff has gotten feedback split evenly for and against the event. Jim Riley, directing of marketing and promotions for the Scrappers, also said a number of media outlets have called for information, including USA Today. Wednesday's event will include a Traficant look-a-like, a mock election and giveaways. Also, anyone wearing a toupee or is the son of a truck driver will be admitted free. The promotion follows the former congressman's recent sentencing to federal prison for charges including racketeering, bribery, obstruction of justice and tax evasion.
A glimpse: Scrappers manager Chris Bando has raved about Eider Torres, a recent roster addition. In his second game, Torres, a shortstop, doubled to reveal great speed around the bases. It was a sign of things to come, Bando said. "Once he gets settled in here, he's going to get better and better," the manager said. "He's an exciting player, and he's going to make some things happen for us at the top of the lineup."
Rehab stint: Marshall McDougall will play his first game at Mahoning Valley tonight as the designated hitter, Bando said. McDougall was sent here from Double-A Akron to rehabilitate a strained hamstring. He was acquired from the Oakland Athletics in a trade involving former Tribe pitcher Ricardo Rincon. Bando said McDougall will also play five innings Wednesday at Mahoning Valley before reporting back to Akron. McDougall once hit six home runs in a game during his college career at Florida State.
Match-ups: Scrappers pitcher Brian Slocum (3-0, 1.05) will start tonight. Michael Rogers (5-3, 3.17) gets the call Wednesday.
