Boy struck by minivan in critical condition
WARREN -- A 7-year-old Beck Street S.E. boy was in critical condition this morning in St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown after the bike he was riding was struck by a minivan.
According to police reports, Sally Carr, 33, of Warren, was driving south on Rogers Street around 8:11 p.m. Sunday when Levi Allison darted in front of her.
Carr told police she did not see the boy. She was not charged.
High school orientation
NILES -- McKinley High School will have a 45-minute orientation for incoming freshmen and their parents at 7 p.m. Aug. 19 in the high school cafeteria.

Sign language classes
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Community Center for the Deaf is offering American Sign Language classes beginning next month.
Different courses are available for beginning, intermediate and experienced signers. Minimum cost is $50, but an $85 payment includes an optional workbook.
The beginner classes will help students learn vocabulary, language structure and deaf culture.
Registration deadline is Aug. 31.
There is one section for children, but ages 12 and older are eligible for adult classes.
The center is a nonprofit United Way agency.

Man dies in accident
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- A Mercer man died when his SUV ran off Old Mercer Road and rolled over.
Pennsylvania State Police said Jason P. McConnell, 18, of North Spring Road, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:38 p.m. Sunday by Scott A. Black, Mercer County deputy coroner.
A passenger, Ronald A. Bice, 18, of Old Mercer Road, escaped injury. Both men were wearing seat belts, police said.
McConnell was northbound on Old Mercer Road around 12:35 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve, and his SUV slid off the road, police said.
The vehicle struck an embankment, went airborne and rolled, coming to rest on its roof, police said.
Illegal sale of Viagra
PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- A Butler County woman has pleaded guilty to illegally selling 9,000 samples of the prescription drug Viagra.
Cathleen A. Zilner, 30, of North McKean Street, was a pharmaceutical representative when she sold the samples in August 1999, said Mary Beth Buchanan, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
Zilner pleaded guilty Friday in U.S. District Court in Pittsburgh to one count of violating federal drug laws.
The government said Zilner sold the samples to people, who then smuggled them out of the United States for sale in countries where the drug isn't legal.
Federal law stipulates that drug samples may be distributed only to licensed physicians, health-care professionals, pharmacies or hospitals.
The samples must also be free, given only to promote the sale of the drug, Snyder said.
Zilner will be sentenced Nov. 18. She could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. She remains free on bond pending sentencing.
ATVs reported stolen
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Three all-terrain vehicles were taken from a trailer parked on South Crawford Avenue.
City police said they were taken overnight from Friday to Saturday.
One vehicle was found behind a home on Richlieu Avenue with the starter ripped out.
Another was found later in the woods off Walnut Street. Its starter was also removed.
Police are still searching for the third ATV, a Polaris Sportsman.
Authorities said a fourth ATV was left on the trailer but also had its starter removed.
