KEYSTONE CLIPS Police holding lost ring set

Maybe she just didn't want it back, or perhaps she just can't remember where she lost it. Pennsylvania State Police said they're holding an engagement/wedding ring set that someone lost a long time ago at the Ann Taylor Outlet Store in the Prime Outlets in Springfield Township, Mercer County.
Police said the ring was found Nov. 25, 2001, and sat in the store's lost and found box until last Sunday. Store employees doing a recent inventory noticed the ring and decided to turn it over to authorities. Police said the ring is at their Mercer barracks on U.S. Route 62 and can be claimed by the owner after giving an accurate description of the set.
Seeking nominations
The Kiwanis Club of Greenville is seeking nominations for its annual "Unsung Hero Award," an annual tribute to an individual volunteer who has made a significant contribution to the well-being of the Greenville community but who has received little or no public acknowledgment. Greenville area residents, churches, schools, businesses and service organizations are invited to submit nominations. The winning honoree will be invited to a Kiwanis luncheon in September and will pick up a check for $100 made out to the charity of his or her choice. Nominations are due by Aug. 23 at the Chamber of Commerce office, 206 Main St.
Retirement study
State Rep. Frank LaGrotta of Ellwood City, D-10th, is supporting a resolution that would request the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency study whether Pennsylvania should offer a retirement plan to its volunteer firefighters. Currently, Pennsylvania's volunteer fire companies face a challenge of recruiting and retaining talented firefighters.
The proposed resolution would protect local property-tax payers from large tax increases that would be needed if the state had to go to 100 percent paid municipal departments, LaGrotta said. He added that such plans already exist in 13 states, including New Mexico, where firefighters with 25 years of service or more receive $200 per month after reaching 65.
