Award presented
The Academy of General Dentistry presented dentist Dale F. Spadafora of Hermitage with the prestigious Mastership award in a convocation ceremony during the academy's annual meeting in Honolulu.
Dr. Spadafora has met the highest criteria for professional excellence by taking 1,000 hours of continuing education in the 16 disciplines of dentistry, including 400 hours dedicated to practicing "hands-on" skills and techniques. To date, 1,651 dentists nationwide have received Mastership honors.
Dr. Spadafora graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1990 and is practicing dentistry in Hermitage.
He also is a member of the American Society of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Pittsburgh Dental Research Society, and the Mercer County Dental Society.
He and his wife, Deanna, have two children.
LAWYERS
Juris doctorate degree
Matthew David Cochran, formerly of Poland, has earned his juris doctorate degree from American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C. Cochran, who lives in Scottsdale, Ariz., is preparing for the Arizona bar examination.
While a law student, he worked at the American Red Cross Office of Patents and Licensing, Rockville, Md., and interned in the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, Phoenix.
Cochran, a 1994 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, received a bachelor of arts degree from Kent State University with a double major in political science and biology.
He is the son of Drs. Rich and Gloria Cochran of Poland.
DOCTORATE
Degree in sociology
Ken Litwin, a son of Ken and Bernadette Litwin of Poland, has received his doctorate degree in sociology from The Ohio State University.
Litwin earned his bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University and his master's degree from OSU.
He and his wife, Rhonda, have been living in Denver, where he has been teaching sociology at the University of Denver.
They will move to Mount Pleasant, Mich., where he will begin teaching at Central Michigan University.
