WARREN -- Evangelist Jesse Duplantis will speak at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at First Assembly of God at 2640 Parkman Road.
Duplantis, of New Orleans, is best known for his 30-minute weekly television program on Trinity Broadcasting Network and other stations worldwide. He's worked full-time in evangelistic ministry since 1978.
New church opensdowntown on Hazel St.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Bridging of the Spirit Christian Center will have its grand opening at 11 a.m. Sunday at 32 S. Hazel St., which is across the street from the Youngstown Police Department's parking lot.
The message will be given by Pastor Calvin Penny, who will be assisted by First Lady Linda M. Penny.
The pastor said he wanted to do outreach in the downtown area and help downtown residents who lacked transportation to church.
Free radio seminar
YOUNGSTOWN -- Pastor Calvin Penny will present "Gospel Excellence in Radio," a free broadcast seminar at 10 a.m. Aug. 17 in Grace Evangelistic Church on the city's East Side.
Penny, a veteran of WGFT-AM 1500 in Youngstown, will discuss presenting a ministry effectively for radio and television, microphone techniques, recording tips and recording levels, and the uses of tapes vs. compact discs and minidiscs.

Healing Mass set
YOUNGSTOWN -- A healing mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Aug. 21 in St. Casimir Church.
The anointing of the sick, elderly and troubled will take place. A light lunch will be served after the service.
Outdoor concert
AUSTINTOWN -- An outdoor concert is scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 24 at First United Methodist Church of West Austintown.
Featured performers will be the church's pastor, the Rev. Tom Badanjek, and a member of the congregation, Jim Gothot.
Benedictine program
WARREN -- The Benedictine Sisters of the Byzantine Church at Queen of Heaven Monastery will have an afternoon of spirituality from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 14.
Monsignor George Appleyard will talk on "The Holy Eucharist as Seen by East and West."
There will be time for reflections, questions and coffee. The sacrament of reconciliation will be available.
The afternoon will conclude with a celebration of Vespers at 4:10 p.m.

Pilgrim to speak
AUSTINTOWN -- Pilgrim George Walter will speak on his world travels at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Anne Ukrainian Church.
He was to be ordained as a priest, but in 1970 felt a calling to become a walking pilgrim.
In over 30 years, he has walked thousands of miles in more than 40 countries to visit holy sites.
Women's day
YOUNGSTOWN -- Margie Roller will speak on the topic "Water of Life" when Price Memorial AME Zion Church has its annual women's day prayer breakfast.
