Public invited to celebrate Pakistan Independence Day

YOUNGSTOWN -- The public is invited to a celebration of Pakistan Independence Day at 4 p.m. today at Youngstown State University's Debartolo Hall, sponsored by the Youngstown Association of Pakistani Americans.
Guest speaker Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, executive director of the Kashmiri American Council, will talk at 5 p.m. about the latest situation in Kashmir.
India and Pakistan have been conducting military campaigns since India's independence in 1947 for control of Kashmir, a region that separates the two countries.
Tensions flared again in December, and there are now hundreds of thousands of troops stationed along the region's borders.
Fai's presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session, then refreshments at 6:15 p.m.
Cost is $5 for adults. Children under 12 are free. Call Yasmeen Rashid at (330) 759-9659 or Talaat Mir at (330) 707-0324 to confirm attendance.
