JOHNNY APPLESEED FESTIVAL Reservations sought for variety of events

The 35th annual festival will be Sept. 27-29 at the fairgrounds.
LISBON -- Runners, bakers, quilters, car, truck and motorcycle buffs: Johnny Appleseed Festival organizers are looking for you.
The 35th annual event will be Sept. 27-29, and organizers are now accepting reservations for many of the events.
A new event is the apple recipe contest, said Vi Palmer, festival director. Not only apple pies, but other desserts, salads, main dishes or appetizers that have apples as the main ingredient will be judged, she said.
Girls 15 to 17 are needed as candidates for festival queen. Children 5 to 8 are needed for the Mr. Apple Bud and Miss Apple Blossom contests.
Some events for which participants can register in advance, Palmer said, include a quilt show and auction; garden tractor pull and an antique tractor pull; a car, motorcycle and truck show and parade; and a one-mile fun run and five-mile challenge.
There will be space for arts and crafts booths all weekend and flea market vendors on Saturday only, she said.
The limited edition Johnny Appleseed Festival plates will be available, with this year's plate being the third in a series of five, Palmer said.
Anyone who is collecting a certain numbered plate in the series may call to reserve that plate. There will be 120 plates sold, she said.
