Julia's -- An innviting place

HUBBARD -- The "Help Wanted" sign is up at Julia's Bed and Breakfast.
Brad Martin, project manager for owner J.V. Farrara, said the West Liberty Street facility will open at the end of September.
Parties are already being booked for February at the Powell Mansion, built in 1878.
Visitors are quickly drawn to the restored wood floors, large stone fireplace at the entrance and rich draperies and wallpaper throughout the two-story building.
An overnight stay in one of five rooms complete with fireplace and jacuzzi and dark wood or brass bed will cost $250 for double occupancy.
The basement room will cost $90.
"It will be an inviting place to be," said Martin, a Detroit native with a restaurant management background.
Julia's sits just west of downtown Hubbard in front of Pine Lakes Golf Club, also owned by Ferrara.
Charming atmosphere
Part of Julia's charm is a large outdoor gazebo that is flanked by two smaller gazebos, and a pond with a fountain.
In addition to a wheelchair-accessible guest room, the first floor contains two dining areas and a fully professional kitchen that leads onto a deck.
Julia's will be an informal facility, Martin explained. Guests will be able to walk into the kitchen, talk with the chef and rifle the refrigerator.
The second-floor rooms are individually decorated and are named. The hallway leads onto a small deck.
Spiral steps lead from the second-floor deck to the ground.
Besides the room in the basement, there is a party room with restrooms and a work-out room.
From the first-floor deck and gazebos, guests have a view of the golf course's No. 1 tee, year-round driving range with heaters and a practice green.
"We're trying to be a one-stop shop," Martin said, noting golf packages can be arranged.
Initially, only breakfast will be served to guests, but it will expand to lunch and dinner, Martin said.
Eventually, he noted, the dining rooms will be open to the general public on weekends with a limited but quality menu.
In addition to the house itself and gazebos for retirement parties, baby showers and wedding rehearsal dinners, a tent to seat 250 will be available on the back lawn for weddings and receptions that Julia's will have catered.
Although Julia's marketing will hit the Cleveland and Pittsburgh markets, attracting local residents will be a priority, the manager pointed out.
"We want people to think of us when it's [a party] bigger than their house will allow," Martin said.
