Jolly Joe'seliminated
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- Jolly Joe's rally fell short in an 11-8 loss to Baltimore in the AAABA baseball tournament Thursday at Roxbury Park.
The loss eliminated the Youngstown baseball team, which finished with a 3-2 record.
Jolly Joe's scored six runs in the last of the ninth inning but couldn't overcome Baltimore.
For Jolly Joe's, Shane Davis went 2-for-4, including a double, with four RBIs. Mark Nightingale also drove in two runs for the Youngstown team. Blair Lang took the loss.
Jolly Joe's advanced to play Baltimore by beating Chicago 5-4 Thursday. Youngstown scored in the last of the 10th for the victory.
Davis went 3-for-5, and Matt Raiti went all 10 innings on the mound for the win.
McCallisterhonored
VALPARAISO, Ind. -- Joshua McCallister of Youngstown, a senior member of the Valparaiso University baseball team this past season, has won Presidential Academic Honors.
McCallister, a pitcher and a Cardinal Mooney graduate, was among 102 student-athletes to achieve a 3.25 cumulative grade-point average to gain the honors.
McCallister is majoring in political science.
Rosko qualifies
PITTSBURGH -- Tom Roskos of Sharpsville, an assistant pro at Avalon Lakes, recently won the qualifying round of the ReMax World Long Drive Championship with a drive of 396 yards, six inches at Pittsburgh North Golf Club.
Roskos earned a bye in the first round of the district final, which will be held at the South Jersey Golf Course in Sewell, N.J.

OSU-Cincy gamealmost soldout
CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati's home game with Ohio State on Sept. 21 is approaching a sellout and should set single-game attendance records for the football program and Conference USA, the university said.
The only tickets left for the game at Paul Brown Stadium, which seats 66,927, are fewer than 1,000 set aside for season ticket sales this month, university spokesman Brian McCann said Thursday.
The size of the stadium -- home to the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals -- all but assures a record for the university and makes one likely for the conference. The Bearcats usually play home games on campus at Nippert Stadium, where capacity is 35,000.
Cincinnati's single-game attendance record of 36,233 was set in 1986, when the Bearcats played Kentucky at Riverfront Stadium -- now Cinergy Field. Conference USA's record of 65,885 was set when Tennessee played at Memphis in 1996.
Roddick advances
MASON -- Andy Roddick beat Wayne Ferreira 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the Cincinnati Masters Series quarterfinals.
A resurgent Andre Agassi also advanced with a victory over Thomas Enqvist. He will face top-seeded Lleyton Hewitt, who beat 35th-ranked Jarkko Nieminen.
Schwikertcruises
CLEVELAND -- Defending national champion Tasha Schwikert cruised through the preliminaries at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships, taking the lead and a big step toward her second title.
Schwikert finished with 37.650 points, 0.375 ahead of Tabitha Yim. The all-around final is Saturday night.
